Why Early Music Development Matters for Kids – and Why We Started Baby Music in Rotterdam

When my first daughter was born, I searched for music lessons for kids in Rotterdam. You’d think – in a city full of opportunities, cultures, and an international community – it should be simple. But back then, there were no baby music classes in English, no space where parents could join in 100% and sing, clap, and discover music together with their little ones.

So we created our own. At first, just one-off events. Families came, played, sang, laughed. The demand was huge. Soon it grew into a regular program in the center of Rotterdam, open for expats and locals alike.

But why music so early?
Research from Harvard and MIT shows that babies who experience rhythm, melody, and parent engagement develop stronger language skills, social bonding, and motor coordination (Harvard Center on the Developing Child). Early music development is not about creating a “mini Mozart.” It’s about helping your child feel safe, connected, and curious.

In our studio, parents sit on the floor with their kids, clapping, moving, singing silly songs. It’s not about perfection – it’s about connection. And yes, you’ll probably end up humming those songs all week.
